Safe use and handling of Portable Grinders and Abrasive
Wheels
Course Aim
The course aims to provide candidates with the theory and practical
(if required) to enable candidates to demonstrate a minimum level
of competence as required by health & safety codes of practice.
Who Should Attend
People who are required to use and maintain portable grinders and
abrasive wheels and their supervisors. Up to 12 people can be accommodated
in one training session

- Legislative requirements
- Hazards from use of abrasive wheels
- General Precautions
- Methods of marking abrasive wheels
- Storage, handling, transportation and inspecting abrasive wheels
- Mounting the wheel
- Using and inspecting the angle grinder
The different types of discs, including carborundum and diamond
tipped varieties, will be covered in the course. A practical session
can be included as required. Other types of grinder can be covered
during the session provided we are notified in advance
Objectives
By the end of the course, candidates will be able to use grinders
and abrasive wheels and understand the associated hazards
Certificates
A certificate of competence is provided for all candidates that
attend the course.
Duration of Course
The course lasts half a day and is normally run at a location of
your choice. There is a requirement for a room with tables and a
car park, yard etc for the practical session.
