IOSH Managing Safely in Construction Course
Course Aim
The overall aim is for candidates to acquire knowledge and practical skills for planning and/or managing health and safety on site, in order that candidates can demonstrate competence as required by the CDM Regulations 2007.
Who Should Attend
This course is designed for a wide variety of managers (ie site managers, project/contracts managers, agents etc) involved in construction, maintenance and allied industries who want a nationally recognised health and safety qualification that provides the candidate with a high level of knowledge and competence in relation to health & safety management on site.
Objectives
At the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Understand the main requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999, the CDM Regulations 2007, and Common Law
- Distinguish between the duties & responsibilities of the employer & employee, client, contractor & sub contractor
- Assess the competence of contractors & sub-contractors
- Recognise and know how to manage common hazards on construction sites
- Undertake risk assessment & risk control in relation to site activities
- Investigate accidents and incidents and take remedial action
- Know the importance of continuous active monitoring and be able to prepare and use inspection checklists
Content of Course
The course comprises seven core modules delivered over 4 days.
- Principles of accident prevention
- Health & safety legislation
- Health and safety management systems
- Practical risk assessment – techniques and control
- Management of common site hazards
- Accident causation and investigation
- Active monitoring, audit and review
Delegates must allocate sufficient time after the course for completing a workplace based assignment.
Examination Information
Delegates who attend and successfully complete both the practical and written assessments will be awarded the nationally recognisedManaging Safely in Construction certificate issued by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). The practical assessment must be completed in the delegate’s workplace and submitted within two weeks of completing the course.
We regularly run this course at Hassocks Golf Club near Burgess Hill in West Sussex. We can also run the above course at a location of your choice in the South East of England including Sussex, Surrey, London and Kent
