IOSH Managing Safely Course

Course Aim

The overall aim of the IOSH Managing Safely course is for candidates to acquire knowledge and practical skills to manage health and safety issues in their workplace.

Who Should Attend

The IOSH Managing Safely course is designed for managers and supervisors, in any sector and any organisation, who are required to manage risk and resources within their organisation. The course is also suitable for directors and owners of smaller organisations who need to implement a safety management system appropriate for their organisation.

Objectives

By the end of the course candidates will be able to:-

• understand and apply the basic principles of managing health and safety
• be aware of employers responsibilities to employees and others
• assess risk within the workplace and apply effective control measures
• understand how to manage common hazards in the workplace
• ensure adequate training and safety information is provided
• set health and safety objectives and to plan effectively
• investigate the causes of accidents and take appropriate action

Content of Course

The coursecomprises seven core modules delivered over 2 x 2 days.

• Module 1 – Introduction and Overview
• Module 2 – Risk Assessment
• Module 3 – Risk Control
• Module 4 – Health and Safety Legislation
• Module 5 – Common Hazards
• Module 6 – Investigating Accidents and Incidents
• Module 7 – Measuring Performance
• Module 8 – Environmental Protection

Candidates must allocate sufficient time after the course for completing a workplace based assignment.

Examination & Assessment Information

Candidates who attend and successfully complete both the practical and written assessments will be awarded the nationally recognised Managing Safely certificate issued by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). The certificate is valid for three years. The practical assessment must be completed in the delegate’s workplace and submitted within two weeks of completing the course.

IOSH Managing safely courses are held in Sussex, Surrey and Kent.
